How to perform Background Checks in Leo

Our Background Check function is used within our Regulated Firm and Principal Firm Solutions. It is most commonly used within Due Diligence processes, as well as to keep documentation of having performed the required background checks.

How to set up a Background Check?

Firs,t you need to identify the relevant Report module, depending on which Category it has been organised into. For example, Client Due Diligence to perform background checks on prospective clients.

To perform a new check follow the instructions below:

  • Click on NEW REPORT. This opens up a smaller window to select the relevant template.
  • Name the report, assign a due date, and both an assignee and reviewer.
  • Once these details are filled out, the NEXT button will become available at the bottom right of the window.

Filling in the Background Check Report questionnaire

Like all other Reports, Leo’s Background Check reports are structured as questionnaires.

To get started with filling it out, you must identify whether you are running a check on a Person or a Company.

Once you have selected either or both options, the questionnaire will adapt to include it/them. Added Chapters and Sections will appear on the right of the questionnaire.

  • Clicking on an added Chapter/Section will allow you to answer the relevant section. For example, below the Person section has been selected and clicked on.

NOTE: There will be an area approximately halfway through the questionnaire that indicates it will be filled in by Leo. You should leave this blank.

  • Once you have filled in the relevant details, the CHECK AGAINST PREVIOUS SEARCHES button will be available to click.

This is intended to identify if you have run previous searches on this person to avoid running the same check twice.

  • If no previous checks have been found, you will be shown a new window.
  • Complete as many fields as you can.
  • Click the NEW ENTRY

This allows you to run the Background Chek for the first time.

NOTE: Creating a new entry will open a new window to our third-party provider. Here the results of your background check will appear.

  • Once the new window to our third-party provider opened, each result must be ‘resolved’. If you believe the result to be the person you are looking to run the check on, click the tick symbol. If not, click the x symbol.

Below is how the second half of the report will appear before all matches have been resolved. Once they have been, the number of Unresolved Matches will be 0, and answer to all questions below will be accurate.

Generating a Background Check Report

Once all the above steps have been completed, a prose Report will be generated. This Report will include a cover page depending on what has been uploaded into your Settings, as well as a detailed inclusion of all details of the Background Check.

Firstly, following the cover page is the Report’s executive Summary. If any Red Flags, Concerns or Observations had been made during the Background Check, these would be included here.

After the Executive Summary, the main body of the Report includes all information gained from the check. This includes lack of matches to any damaging information that otherwise would have raised Red Flags etc.
